Photoshop Pencil Effect on Router

05 Nov 2007 - Category: Graphics

I really love my link box (it's a very old router!). I have 12 Ethernet (or RJ45, or network) cables connected to it, which I hope some day will all be connected to linux boxes! For now only two computers are connected to it, the rest of the wires are just there to look pretty!

And yes, it does look pretty cool! So I took a picture of it.. I will not be showing you the original because I don't want you to see how awful my camera quality is!

I cropped the image down to just the face of the router, which I found was even worse quality close up especially considering I have a 12MP camera! I wish I had an SLR!.

I played around with a few effects to see if I could compromise the quality with a nice look, and I think I found it!

Here is the image scaled down, to view it in high resolution just click on it.

How to do it
Liked that effect? It's very simple to do.

In photoshop, select Filter from the toolbar, then Filter Gallery.., Artistic drop down menu, then Poster Edges.
Filter > Filter Gallery > Artistic > Poster Edges.

From Poster Edges, drag Edge thickness, Edge intensity and Posterization all the way to the right. The numbers reading down should be 10, 10, 6. Select Okay!

Finished, and you should have something similar to my image! If you liked this Photoshop Tutorial, please social bookmark it! (Digg, Deli.icio.us etc.). I will be adding bookmarking links soon, but I have to have to handcode it all not just use a wordpress plugin!
